The following are highlights from Monday’s Sparks City Council Meeting:
Proclamation
Sparks City Council proclaimed the month of November as Alpha 1 (Antitrypsin Deficiency) awareness month. Alpha 1 is one of the most common serious hereditary disorders in the world and can result in life-threatening lung disease in adults and liver disease in both children and adults.
General Business
• Sparks City Council approved the final maps for the Kiley Ranch North Village subdivisions.
• Council confirmed Karim Shabazz to the Sparks Planning Commission and also adopted a resolution that updates procedures for appointments to current boards, commissions, and similar groups.
• The council approved a construction contract with Q&D Construction in the amount of $634,000 for phased improvements to Victorian Square as part of the City’s Capital Improvement Plan. The project will provide improvements to the north side of Victorian Avenue from Pyramid Way to 10th Street. Work includes the removal and replacement of pavers, portions of a sidewalk, tree planters, installation of new electrical to street grade trees for future lighting, and replacement of the pavers located in the center median.
• The council approved a motion requesting the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection (NDEP), Washoe County Health District (WCHD), and Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) give timely informational updates on negotiations for re-instating a “Water Projects Waiver” and to provide local elected officials status reports on the processing of “Water Projects” at least quarterly.
• Council approved salary and benefits resolutions for the Mayor, City Council, City Manager, City Attorney, Municipal Court Judges and executive employees.
