Sparks City Councilman Appointed to Serve on National League of Cities

December 28, 2017 By Sparks Tribune Leave a Comment

Kristopher Dahir has been appointed to the National League of Cities 2018 Community and Economic Development federal advocacy committee.

Sparks City Councilman Kristopher Dahir has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2018 Community and Economic Development federal advocacy committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC’s federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness. The appointment was announced by NLC President Mark Stodola, mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Stodola said serving on an NLC committee is one of the most effective ways for a local official to advocate for their community in Washington. “I am thrilled to have Kristopher Dahir join a team of local leaders from around the country working to craft our policy platform and to solve the most pressing challenges facing our communities.”

As a committee member, Dahir will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the administration and at here at home.

“The city of Sparks and our region is in the middle of one of the largest economic and population growth patterns we have seen and it is crucial that we have the opportunity to share our experiences and learn from others who have walked this path,” said Dahir. “This area of community and economic development touches the lives of every person who lives in our cities.

This year’s leadership committee also includes Fort Worth, Texas council member Gina Bivens, Malibu, California mayor Lou La Monte and Mesa Arizona council member Kevin Thompson.
