The Northern 4A All-Region basketball teams were released this week and Sparks schools were well represented.
Spanish Springs boys coach Kyle Penney and girls coach Art Cardenas both won Coach of the Year in the High Desert League. In the Sierra League, Damonte Ranch boys coach Brian Voyles earned the honor while Galena’s Jeff Keyes won it on the girls side.
The Cougs also swept Player of the Year honors as Jalen Townsell and Autumn Wadsworth both took home the award for the HDL boys and girls. Galena’s Moses Wood won the award for the boys in the Sierra League and Kenna Holt won it for the girls.
Spanish Springs brought home more hardware as DJ Panfili and Leo Grass took home First Team honors in the HDL for the boys while Kierra Johnson and Naelia Pinado were named for the girls. Reed’s Serene Townsell also was named to the girls First Team and fellow Raider Matt Williams was on the boys list.
For the boys Second Team, Cougs sophomore Mason Whitaker was named to the team as was Reed junior Franz Castillo. On the HDL girls side, Raiders senior Taylor Johnson made the Second Team while Serena Sanchez and Lauryn Dressler also received the honor.
Reed’s Tyler Wilson and Trey Stevens were on the Honorable Mention list for the HDL boys as was Joey Prizina of Spanish Springs. Emma Johnson and Hannah Anderson made the list for the Reed girls as well as Mariah Barraza for Spanish Springs.
