The Spanish Springs boys picked up a pair of wins over the last week to move to move into a tie for sixth in the Sierra League standings.
The Cougs knocked off Damonte Ranch last Tuesday in a high scoring game on both sides, 12-9 before falling at home to Bishop Manogue on Thursday, 12-1. The boys flipped the script on the Miners home field on Saturday and came away with an 8-4 win.
Spanish Springs now sits at 10-7 overall and 7-5 in league play. Despite being in a tie for sixth with Galena, they are right in the thick of things with four teams at 8-4 in a tie for second.
They hosted McQueen yesterday, play at McQueen tomorrow before welcoming in North Valleys for a pair on Saturday.
Reed
The Raiders edged Wooster last Tuesday 6-6 before splitting a pair with Galena on Thursday and Saturday to finish the week with a 2-1 mark.
Andrew Burmer was solid on the mound for nearly six innings, giving up just two hits and no runs to earn the win for Reed against Wooster. Jordan Oliver led the way with a hit and two RBIs on offense. It was the second win in a row for the Raiders against the Colts who knocked them off 13-6 three days prior.
Reed jumped on the board with two runs on Thursday against Galena and Casey Burfield turned in a solid pitching performance as the Raiders won the game 3-1. Burfield struck out six and only allowed five hits and a run over seven innings of work in the win. Isaac Tecson provided a big solo home run while Greg Oltman and Scott Cameron had RBI singles.
The Raiders raced out to an early 5-0 lead on Saturday at Galena but the Grizzlies answered with 10 over the first three innings to beat Reed 13-8. Oltman led the way with three RBIs and David Goodman had a single, triple and knocked in two. Kameron Soubiea tallied his second triple in as many games.
Up next, Reed will play at North Valleys tomorrow after hosting them yesterday. They will play a doubleheader against Reno at home Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. The Raiders sit at 8-4 in league play and are tied for second place with three other teams.
