Crews were hard at work Monday putting up holiday decorations in Sparks.
The holiday season is in full swing in Sparks and there are plenty of activities on tap over the next couple of weeks to get residents into the holiday spirit.
On Friday, the Nugget Casino Resort will be holding its 3rd annual Christmas Tree Lighting near the northwest entrance of the property on Victorian Avenue. Santa Claus will be on hand and will join holiday carolers for the festivities that are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Free hot chocolate will be given out to those that attend the lighting of the biggest Christmas tree in the Rail City.
Earlier in the day, the Nugget will be kicking off its three-day Crafts for Christmas event in the Sierra Convention rooms on the second floor of the hotel. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, the convention rooms will be filled with Christmas craft and gift booths, holiday food and drink demonstrations, musical performances and much more. Santa Claus will be at the event from 12 to 4 p.m. each day.
The Outlets at Legends will also be getting in on the fun on Saturday. Starting at 6 p.m., bring the family and enjoy a musical rendition of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas performed by the Scot Marshall Band. After the performance, the man in red will make an appearance and officially kick off the season by the lighting of the tree followed by a fireworks show. The first 250 kids will receive a light up holiday toy.
It wouldn’t be the holiday season in Northern Nevada without the Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade, and the 32nd annual event will take place in downtown Sparks on Saturday, Dec. 1. The parade begins at 1 p.m. but there will be plenty of fun and activities beginning at 11 a.m. that day in Victorian Square.
The fun in Sparks will be capped off Dec. 6-8 from 4 to 9 p.m. as downtown will become a sparkling winter wonderland when 39 North Downtown hosts the 4th Annual 39 North Pole Village. This holiday light festival features thousands of twinkling lights, holiday shopping booths, great food, family fun and holiday cheer.
Santa will be there to take requests and read special letters he has received to make this a truly special holiday celebration. The heated vendor village tent provides guests with a cozy shopping experience as they browse local vendors and crafters.
Returning this year is The Griswold Challenge where local families and businesses compete in a light display contest inspired by the one and only Clark Griswold from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
