It was a quick trip for the teams up North that came down to Las Vegas for the state basketball tournament, and in the end the South prevailed in both the boys and girls 4A brackets.
The No. 1 seeded Spanish Springs girls had a first round bye and met up with Bishop Gorman in the semifinals Thursday after the Gaels defeated Canyon Springs 49-18 on Wednesday. The Cougs, who won its first regional championship just five days prior, were eliminated by Gorman the next night after losing 54-38.
Reno, the No. 2 seed, was knocked out Wednesday when they lost to Desert Oasis, 79-48. Centennial topped Oasis 79-48 in the semifinals and went on to beat Gorman Friday in the title game, 78-47.
The Cougar boys suffered a similar fate and had its season ended in the state quarterfinals to Arbor View, 72-56. Clark topped Desert Pines 55-40 to set up a matchup with the No. 1 seed from the North, Bishop Manogue on Thursday. Manogue lost 52-34 while Gorman beat Arbor View 81-52.

Bishop Gorman went on to defeat Clark 68-60 to win the state title on Friday night at the Orleans Arena. It was the eight straight state championship for the Gorman boys team.
