Senior Keaton Smith has been named the Mountain West Player of the Week after his historic run against No. 2 Oregon State and Air Force. Smith led Nevada with a .600 batting average, 30 total bases, 15 hits, three doubles, three triples, two home runs and a 1.200 slugging percentage in the five games played this past week.
In the second game against defending national champion and No. 2 Oregon State, Smith launched the first pitch he saw in the 10th inning over the left-field wall for a 7-6 walkoff victory. Against the Beavers, Smith slashed .667 with six hits, a triple, three RBI and the game-winning home run.
At Air Force, Smith made Nevada history as the first player to hit for the cycle since Brooks Klein in 2012. He did it in the series finale, as the Pack put up 26 runs, the most ever under head coach T.J. Bruce.
Smith continued his hot streak by batting .563 with nine hits, three doubles, two triples and a home run with 19 total bases against the Falcons. Smith scored at least one run in all five games last week, and at least three hits in four of the five.
Entering the series against No. 2 Oregon State, Smith was batting .156 on the year. Following the five-game week, he is now slashing .248.
