Finally, Joe Biden has hit upon a winning formula to buoy his sinking approval ratings: Get COVID not once, but twice.
The 79-year-old president – and the most unpopular president in modern history – tested positive for the virus July 21. In that time, he had a few things uncharacteristically go his way. Sen. Joe Manchin suddenly announced he’d vote for the spending bill formerly known as “Build Back Better,” and while the economy slipped into the dreaded “R” territory – recession – the news of his medical woes seemed to take the edge off the bad news.
So, hey, if it worked once, why not try it again? On Saturday, July 30, the White House announced that the president had tested positive … again. The hallelujah chorus could be heard throughout the West Wing as the president is once again in strict quarantine, allowing his staff a break from the president’s in-person gaffes.
Who can forget the president reading the teleprompter ala Anchorman, ending his remarks with “End of quote … repeat the line.” Oh, brother. Stay classy, Mr. President.
And let’s not forget his brutal “honor the holocaust” brain fart.
Speaking in Israel, he said: “Later today, I will once more return to the hallowed ground of … Yad Vashem to honor the 6 million Jewish lives that were stolen in a genocide and continue — which we must do every, every day — continue to bear witness, to keep alive the truth and honor of the Holocaust…”
He meant to say the “horror of the holocaust.” He corrected it on the fly, but the damage was done.
Dr. Kevin O’Connor wrote a memo announcing President Biden’s re-infection saying that while the president feels great and has no new symptoms, he will nevertheless “reinitiate strict isolation procedures.”
Why not? It worked once.
WE ARE IN RECESSION
I’m sorry for the president’s infection and hope he fully recovers. But, it must be said that the recession is official. And by trying to deny that, the Biden Administration has crossed the line between clueless and dishonest.
The American economy contracted by 0.9% in the second quarter. The previous quarter shrank by 1.6%. Two successive declines is the standard definition of a recession.
I understand why Team Biden is trying to make us believe that the economy isn’t really in a recession. History proves that presidents presiding over a recession get unelected at the earliest election. For Biden, that means he’ll get repudiated in the midterm election and he’ll get pushed out by his own party from running for re-election in 2024.
Because Biden can’t afford to be seen as a lame duck leader, he and his people are out there telling us that the economy is really good. It’s not a recession. It’s a strong economy only in a transition, thanks to the president’s spectacular leadership.
Even my friends who want to believe that know otherwise every time they visit the grocery store and the gas station.
ONE MORE THING
– If you tell me that you don’t get musicals “because people don’t break out in song in real life” then you’re hanging out with the wrong people.
– I am reading a great book called “There’s A Hole In My Bucket” by Lee King.
– I hate it when people misuse “your” for “you’re.” There so ignorant.
— If the pants of liars really did catch on fire, watching the news would be so much more fun.
I best let myself out. Thanks for reading and until next week, avoid soreheads, laugh a little and always question authority.
