- Susan Enfield, Washoe County School District Superintendent, gave a presentation on the new Strategic Plan for the region.
Mayor Ed Lawson proclaimed:
- The second week of October as Fire Prevention week as an annual reminder that fire is a serious public safety concern.
- October 4, 2023, as International Walk to School Day to highlight the health benefits of walking and bicycling, and also remind the community to protect the safety of students traveling to and from school.
- The month of October as Careers in Construction Month to increase awareness and appreciation of the construction workforce.
General Business
- Council approved the appointment of Mark Sterbens to the Sparks Tourism and Marketing Committee for a term ending December 31, 2027.
- Council approved a Hexagon Unified Computer-Aided Dispatch and Records Management Governance Agreement between the City of Sparks, the City of Reno, Washoe County, and REMSA.
- Council voted 3-2 to approve a three-year contract with UMR for the City’s self-funded group health care plan in the amount of $324,899.00 for calendar year 2024, $331,995.00 for calendar year 2025, and $339,252.00 for calendar year 2026.
- Council directed defense counsel to proceed with litigation in District Court in Forbush v. City of Sparks, et al.
