Valentine’s Cards for Seniors
Sparks residents Rikki Melanaphy, Jose “Chava” Espana, and Donald Abbott and heading up a Valentine’s card drive for seniors again, collecting and distributing homemade friendship cards to those residing at local assisted living centers and taking part in the Meals on Wheels program. February 7th is the last day to drop your cards off at Cardinal Financial at 979 Pyramid Way Ste. 101 in Sparks to show local Sparks seniors that you care.
Buy a Dutch Luv to help the Food Bank of Northern Nevada
Celebrate the month of love with Dutch Bros by ordering a Dutch Luv Rebel or Frost Latte and give back to your community when you enjoy your delicious drink. A dollar from every Dutch Luv featured drink sold in Reno (unfortunately the one in Sparks hasn’t opened yet) goes to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
Dutch Luv Day started as a canned food drive and over the last 18 years it’s grown to become one of Dutch Bros’ three company-wide givebacks that’s dedicated to helping support the communities it serves. Headquartered in Grants Pass, Oregon, where it was founded by brothers Dane and Travis Boersma, it’s now sharing the “Dutch Luv” with more than 800 locations in 16 states.
VFW Be My Valentine Craft Festival
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 3396 is continuing its tradition of supporting local entrepreneurs and giving back to the community with its annual Be My Valentine Craft Festival to take place this Saturday, February 10th from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Red Hawk Golf and Resort Events Center.
Explore a wide variety of booths highlighting beautiful crafts made with love, take part in a costume parade (such as the Pet Wants’ Valentine Pet Parade or Cosplay for Kindness’s Kids Superhero Costume Contest), and enjoy performances by Music with Confidence, Winter Light & the Blue Bayou Band, and more.
The theme of this year’s festival is to “Unite to Combat Hunger” with the goal to collect a ton of food (“Help us cram the van!” it says on its website). Western Village Inn & Casino’s Dorinda’s Chocolates Giveaway

Valentine’s Night Party at Pure Country Canteen
Bring the family to the Pure Country Canteen at 520 E. Prater Way in Sparks for a good ole’ fashioned all-ages Valentine’s Night Party on Feb. 14. Starting at 6 p.m., adults can enjoy $6 champagne with strawberries, Bailey’s strawberry cream cocktails, and flavored mimosas while the kids can get a sugar high from chocolate hearts to boot. Kids Night Out at the Playful Potter
Drop the kids off at the Playful Potter between 5:30-6 p.m. on the evening of February 16 and go out for the night. While you’re out celebrating Valentine’s Day, kids will get to enjoy a night of their own with cheese pizza, pottery and a movie. The cost is $50 for the event that lasts from 5:30-8 p.m. and the ticket includes two pieces of cheese pizza per child (more pieces of pizza available to buy for $3 each).
