Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) is kicking off Saturday morning monthly cleanups in Washoe County, giving more opportunities for the community to get involved in preserving the Truckee River and recreational spaces that surround it.
The first cleanup will be held on Saturday, March 2 at the Oxbow Nature Study Area in Reno from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and then the second one will be held on March 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rock Park in Sparks.
KTMB invites folks to come for 20 minutes or stay for the whole time and the organizers will provide all the necessary tools for the job. Tools include trash grabbers, bags, rakes, shovels, gloves, and more, and manage disposing of all the trash and debris. Volunteers must wear proper clothing and closed-toed shoes. Along with your gear (and work gloves if you have them), bring some water and KTMB will provide the rest.
KTMB is hosting its second Saturday Morning Cleanup at Rock Park to help get the park looking good for spring and summer. Rock Park gets a lot of use and regularly cleaning up trash, weeding, and sweeping the park lot helps it be more inviting.

Also, keep in mind that The Great Community Cleanup will be happening on April 27 from 8 a.m. to noon, where around 700 volunteers come out to help clean up Northern Nevada’s illegal dump sites and parks.
At the last big Truckee River Cleanup event held September 16, 2023, more than 693 volunteers went to 20 different sites from Verdi to Wadsworth and along the Truckee River watershed to remove weeds, clean up illegal dump sites, stencil storm drains, and ensuring that hazardous waste gets disposed of properly. At the fall 2023 event, 3.1 tons of trash was removed, including 3 bike frames, 3 coolers, 6 shopping carts, 20 tires, and 6 Bird scooters in the river. More than 130 trees were planted, 325 storm drains were stenciled, and 22 tons of weeds and green waste were removed.
