Sky Tavern Junior Ski Resort earlier this month received approval from the Washoe County Board of Adjustment to install lights for night skiing at the Northern Nevada facility.
Sky Tavern is a nonprofit training facility that serves area youth and high school teams.
The resort will be able to operate the lights, which will be mounted on 35-foot-tall poles, until 9 p.m. daily December through April. Nearly 80 lights will be installed on the 143-acre property, making it the only Nevada ski slope to offer night skiing.
Opponents of the lighting say it will affect the view in an area prized for its scenery.
Sky Tavern is still fundraising for the project and there is no date set for installation, according to a spokesperson.
