A press release from Charlene Bybee has announced her bid for Sparks mayor in 2026. The press release follows:
Sparks City Councilwoman Charlene Bybee, a three-term leader and lifelong Sparks resident, officially announced today that she will run for Mayor of Sparks in the 2026 election.
“With our city facing serious financial pressures, aging infrastructure, and a growing demand for housing, we need bold, fresh leadership that’s ready to act,” said Bybee. “I believe Sparks can rise to meet these challenges with a forward-thinking mindset, smart budgeting, and innovative solutions we haven’t tried before.”
A well-known public servant with a decade of experience on the City Council, Bybee brings a collaborative leadership style she describes as “listen, absorb, and explore.” She believes the best answers come from listening to the people who live and work in Sparks, absorbing the facts—not politics—and exploring every viable option to find practical solutions.
If elected, Bybee says her administration will focus on three top priorities:
Fixing the Budget: “Sparks is in debt. We need a deep dive into the budget to find real savings, increase revenue, and deliver services more efficiently and effectively,” says Bybee.
Relieving Traffic Congestion: “Traffic isn’t just frustrating—it’s a public safety issue. We need a regional approach that includes input from residents, businesses, and neighboring communities to fix this problem.”
Unlocking Land for Housing: “The federal lands bill may be stalled, but that doesn’t mean we give up. We must work closely with the Governor, federal delegation, and local governments to expand land access for housing development.”
Bybee says she’s running to ensure Sparks continues to be a great place to live, work, and raise a family—but that will take serious leadership and honest conversations.
“This campaign isn’t about politics as usual,” she said. “It’s about putting Sparks residents first, confronting challenges head-on, and building a future we can all be proud of.”
