Nevada fans collectively breathed a sigh of relief on Friday when Stanford hired Jerod Haase to fill its men’s basketball head coaching vacancy. As I mentioned last week, Stanford would’ve been a realistic landing spot for Eric Musselman had the Cardinal decided to give him a call. Musselman no longer having the option to go to Palo Alto wasn’t the only local tie in … [Read more...]

Softball: Fein throws perfect game, Reed squeaks out win at Manogue
Pitchers are typically ahead of hitters early in the season. Hayley Fein was so far in front of the Hawks in Thursday’s season-opening 12-0 home win, they couldn’t see her. The Cougars’ senior ace struck out 14 of the 15 batters she faced in a five-inning perfect game. The game was called early due to the 10-run mercy rule. Fein also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a … [Read more...]
Raiders ready for title defense
Few programs in the entire country enter the spring with loftier expectations than the Raiders. No, that’s not hyperbole. Reed lost just one starter from last year’s team that put up grotesque numbers. The 2015 squad finished the season 37-2 while winning its third straight regional title and its first state title since 1998. The success of a season ago was recognized … [Read more...]

Reed senior shortstop Kenzie Goins verbally committed to Nevada last year but made her plans official on Thursday, signing a national letter of intent to play for the Pack. Goins hit .403 last season while scoring 53 runs and driving in 36 as the Raiders went 37-2 and won the DI state title. "All I can say is I am very grateful for the opportunity to fulfill my dreams of … [Read more...]
