Battle Born Media announced Friday that Gary Cook is assuming the role of publisher of the Sparks Tribune, replacing Kent Lauer who stepped down last week. Cook has been publisher of The Ely Times, another Battle Born Media newspaper, for the past two years.
“Kent Lauer was very instrumental in getting us off the ground in Sparks when we acquired the newspaper about a year ago,” said Kirk Kern, chief operating officer of Battle Born Media. “We think Gary can help grow the paper in all facets of the business.”
Cook is no stranger to Northern Nevada. He spent 11 years in the area, first working as marketing manager at Nevada Magazine in Carson City from 1988 to 1992 and then helping Incline Village-based Adventure West Magazine get off the ground from 1992 to 1998.
“I’m excited about the prospects of the Sparks Tribune,” Cook said. “Our company feels it has vast potential and we will work hard to make it the paper it should be.”
Cook will handle advertising, circulation and business functions at the paper. Kern will oversee the editorial product.
