This Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., animal lovers can unite over beers, live music and more at the Pouring for Paws event at New West Distributing on 325 E. Nugget Avenue in Sparks.
Benefitting the Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF), Pouring for Paws will feature food by CoCoMoes Catering (from Gardnerville), craft beer sampling from Laughing Dog Brewery, and a silent auction. Local band Under the Radar will be playing, pints of beer will be provided by New West Distributing, and fine wines will be for sale by the glass.
“One of our very regular donors works at New West Distributing,” says WARF volunteer and board member Donna Coombs. “We had a picnic at the beach this summer with all of our volunteers and this idea came up.”
In the following months, WARF started planning the Pouring for Paws event and has been selling tickets to the event through the Sierra Trading Post, other locations throughout Incline Village and Kings Beach, and online. During the event, WARF will be hosting a silent auction with prizes to include a two-night stay in a penthouse suite at Squaw Valley and dinner at Fireside Pizza, a two-night stay at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe with two tickets to Diamond Peak, two roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines, dinner at the Lone Eagle Grille, Mt. Rose lift tickets, and more.
WARF is a grassroots nonprofit organization founded almost 20 years ago that helps save animals from being euthanized. Based in the North Lake Tahoe area, WARF has helped thousands of dogs and cats throughout the years find permanent homes.
“Our founder went to an animal shelter to get a dog and went home with six of them that were on death row,” says Coombs. Originally partnering with Tahoe Vista Animal Shelter, in 2015 the shelter closed due to lack of funding, so WARF is attempting to raise funds to establish a place where animals can continue to live peacefully until they are placed into stable homes. “The goal of this fundraiser is to purchase sanctuary land for animals to keep them alive,” she says.
“Sunny skies are predicted for the event and it’ll be super fun, come join us!” adds Coombs.
Tickets are $35 per person or $45 the day of the event. Purchase tickets online at www.tahoewarf.com.
