Colts walk off on Raiders in ninth inning
Reed suffered its sixth straight loss on Saturday, a 5-4 walk-off defeat at Wooster in nine innings.
The loss dropped the Raiders to 6-12, 3-6 in the 4A North – a game and a half behind Carson and Damonte Ranch for eighth place, the 4A North’s final postseason spot. The Colts improved to 9-9, 4-5.
Donavan Ratfield won it for the home team in the ninth when he dug in with one out and the bases loaded and dropped a single into center field.
Jon Pinto was the only Raider with more than one hit. He went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. His RBI triple with two outs in the top of the seventh pulled the guests within a run. He scored four pitches later when the delivery found the backstop, tying the game.
Jett Brook got the start for the Raiders and wore a no decision despite a sharp outing. He allowed three runs (two earned) on just two hits over five innings. He worked around three walks.
Zane Johnson threw five innings of relief for the Colts and was awarded the win. He struck out six and allowed just two runs on two hits.
Reed will try to start righting the ship on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Wooster.
Reed softball (vs. Galena), Spanish Springs baseball (at Damonte Ranch), Sparks softball (vs. Elko), and Sparks baseball (vs. Galena) were also scheduled to play Saturday and had to push the games to Monday due to Friday night’s rain and snow.
