Week 1 DI North Power Rankings

August 28, 2015 By Nathan Shoup Leave a Comment

Denn2
Tribune photo by John Byrne – Senior quarterback Matt Denn and the Reed Raiders open the season No. 1 in the DI North Power Rankings. They will be challenged for the spot in Saturday’s opener against No. 2 Carson.

1. Reed Raiders (0-0)

Until someone wants to come in and prove otherwise, the Raiders are the unquestioned team to beat this year as they go for their fifth-straight regional crown.

Next game: Saturday vs. No. 2 Carson 7 p.m. (at Mackay Stadium)

Last Week: NR

2. Carson Senators (0-0)

Speaking of someone wanting to prove otherwise, the Senators get that opportunity Saturday night at Mackay Stadium against the Raiders. Considering the two squads have met in the last two regional title games, this is the marquee regular-season matchup of the year.

Next game: Saturday vs. No. 1 Reed 7 p.m. (at Mackay Stadium)

TV: My 21 Reno

Last Week: NR

3. Reno Huskies (0-0)

The Huskies have size and experience in the trenches which will help with a changing of the guard at quarterback and running back. Reno is Reed’s biggest threat to the High Desert League title.

Next game: Friday @ Elk Grove (Calif.) 7:15 p.m.

Last Week: NR

4. Damonte Ranch Mustangs (0-0)

The Mustangs were the Sierra League runner up a season ago, losing to Carson but just three points last October. Damonte returns 17 starters from that squad and is a potential dark horse (get it?) this fall.

Next game: Friday @ Spanish Springs 7 p.m.

Last Week: NR

5. McQueen Lancers (0-0)

The Lancers have to travel down to Minden to play Douglas on Friday but we’ll know a lot more about the Blue and Silver next week when they host Carson.

Next game: Friday @ Douglas 7 p.m.

Last Week: NR
