The Railroaders picked up their first win of the season in dominant fashion Monday night, rolling 6-0 in the middle of heavy wind gusts at Fernley.
Sparks improved to 1-1-2, 1-1-0 in DI-A North play with the win. Fernley dropped to 0-4-0, 0-2-0.
Sparks junior Lizeth Garcia and sophomore Angie Hurtado both had monster nights, accounting for five of the six goals. Garcia found the Vaqueros net four different times. Hurtado assisted all of them.
Hurtado also scored the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute on a penalty kick. Garcia scored her first goal of the night seven minutes later as the Railroaders took a 2-0 lead to the break.
Sophomore Juanita Lopez then stretched the lead to 3-0 two minutes into the second half before Garcia scored in the 69th, 71st and 73rd minutes.
Sparks goalie Evelyn Munoz blocked all four Fernley shots sent her way.
The Railroaders will look to win their second-straight DI-A North contest on Friday when they travel to Elko (1-6-0, 1-1-0). First touch is at 5 p.m.
