The Sparks City Council on Monday approved a $469,000 contract with Reyman Brothers Construction to build a masonry restroom facility at Rock Park, which includes the city’s whitewater attraction on the Truckee River.
Two restrooms, a storage area within the building and three drinking fountains will be built, along with the installation of connections to sewer and water lines.
The permanent facility will improve park aesthetics and visitor experience and will also reduce operations and maintenance costs associated with the existing temporary restrooms, city officials said. The project was made possible by Washoe County through a 2002 voter approved bond issue for the protection of the state’s natural resources.
Reyman Brothers Construction submitted the low bid. The other two bids were for $490,500 and $540,651.
In another major construction project, the council approved a $691,444 contract with Spanish Springs Construction for street work.
The project will replace rundown curb and gutter, driveway approaches and sidewalk ramps as well as overlay three inches of asphalt on the following streets: La Via Way from Los Amigos Drive to Robbie Way, Los Amigos Way from Greenbrae Drive to La Via Way, El Capitan Court, Briargreen Court, Robbie Drive from Greenbrae Drive to Howard Drive, Crestline Court, Marracco Drive from Prater Way to Robbie Drive, Glenbrook Court, Alta Vista Court and Alta Vista Drive from O’Callaghan Drive to Robbie Drive.

La Posada needs to be widened to allow the bike path to go all the way to Pyramid Way. Also would be nice to have a sidewalk to be able to walk to Save Mart shopping center.
