The Cougars snapped a three-game skid in dramatic fashion Tuesday night, beating Douglas, one of the best teams in the Sierra League, in a five-set marathon on the road.
Spanish Springs improved to 13-9, 3-3 in the DI North with the 25-14, 22-25, 15-25, 25-17, 15-12 victory. Douglas fell to 9-5, 3-2.
Ireland Bennet and Sami Szachara led the Cougs with 10 kills apiece. Emily Moore chipped in eight.
Mackenzie O’Connell put together another all-around solid performance, finishing with 35 assists, seven aces, five digs and a three kills.
Spanish Springs had 22 aces as a team.
The Cougars will look to build on the performance Thursday night at Galena.
Reed still looking for first win
The Raiders’ brutally slow start to the season continued Tuesday night as they were swept in straight sets at Galena, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20.
Reed, the defending High Desert League champ, fell to 0-8, 0-6 in the DI North. Galena improved to 9-10, 4-2.
Maddie Johnson and Naisha Shamim led the Raiders with five kills each. Kyra Moss put up nine digs.
Quest for the elusive first win of the season continues Thursday at home against Wooster for the Raiders.
