Well, that was exciting.
Reed pulled out a marathon victory over a really good Oak Ridge team led by a Notre Dame commit. Reno made a statement on the road against a short-handed Damonte squad. And here comes the Galena offense?
With a number of compelling matchups last week, we see the biggest shakeup of the year to date in this week’s Power Rankings.
1. Reed Raiders (4-0)
If there was any uncertainty about the best DI North team in Northern Nevada, at least for the time being, it was answered last Friday. The Raiders moved to 4-0 with a sexy 54-42 home win over a legit Oak Ridge (Calif.) team. The offense shined all night, special teams made plays and the defense braced when it needed to. It will likely be the most impressive win by a Northern Nevada team this fall.
Reed has already bested No. 2 Carson and No. 4 Damonte.
Next game: Friday at Douglas

2. Carson Senators (3-1)
It wasn’t a masterpiece but the Senators won their third-straight last Friday, 28-6, at Spanish Springs. The Cougars’ undersized defense held the prolific Senators’ offense in check most of the night with the exception of a few big plays that ended up being the difference. Carson’s defense continues to be sneaky good. The Senators have allowed just 27 points in their last three.
Next game: Friday vs. Hug
Last week: 1
3. Reno Huskies (3-1)
The Huskies break the top-three for the first time this year after an impressive 14-13 win at Damonte Ranch last Friday. Reno held a prolific Mustangs offense to seven points (although Damonte was without stud senior running back Sam Banghart). Damonte’s other touchdown came on a pick 6.
Next game: Friday vs. Bishop Manogue
Last week: 4
4. Damonte Ranch (1-3)
Damonte dips out of the No. 3 spot for the first time this fall and is likely the best 1-3 team you will find. The Mustangs’ three losses have come to Reed, Placer (Calif.) and Reno. All games were winnable late. Look for Damonte to get back on track this week at North Valleys.
Next game: Friday at North Valleys

5. Galena Grizzlies (2-2)
Okay, so it was just North Valleys. But the Grizzlies only scored 75 points last season. They nearly eclipsed that total last Friday alone, in a 53-7 win over the Panthers. The effort came one week after pushing No. 1 Reed on the road. An intriguing matchup looms Friday at home against McQueen.
Next game: Friday vs. McQueen

Needs to get in the gym: McQueen
