The Sparks boys soccer team reached double digits in the win column Friday night with a 2-0 win at Dayton. The Railroaders are now 10-1-1, 6-0-1.
Dayton fell to 3-6-2, 1-5-1.
The goals were few and far between for the Railroaders but that was of no detriment as the Railroaders pitched their ninth shutout of the season.
Brandon Paz scored the first goal in the seventh minute with an assist from Omar Vasquez and the 1-0 lead remained until the 70th when Genaro Vazquez scored with help from Alexis Medina.
The Railroaders host Lowry (4-5-1, 3-3-1) on Saturday at noon.
Girls ends skid with 7-2 rout
The Railroaders snapped a three-game losing streak Friday night with a convincing 7-2 win at Dayton.
Sparks moved to 4-4-2, 4-3-0 in the DI-A North. Dayton dropped to 1-10-2, 0-6-1.
Sophomore Angie Hurtado (7’, 67’, 68’) finished with a hat trick and Zahori Toledo (9’, 16’) found the net twice.
Lizeth Garcia (77’) and Juanita Lopez (78’) accounted for the rest of the scoring.
Sparks jumped to a quick 3-0 lead but allowed a Dayton goal in the 35th minute and saw its lead cut to 3-2 four minutes into the second half. The one-goal difference remained until Hurtado scored her second goal of the night off a corner kick in the 67th.
The Railroaders scored four goals in the final 23 minutes to break the league meeting open.
Sparks travels to Lowry (6-2-1, 4-1-1) for a big DI-A North league match on Saturday noon.
