Spanish Springs handled cross-town rival, Reed, 3-1 on Saturday.
The Cougars improved to 3-4-4, 3-4-4. The Raiders fell to 2-7-2, 2-7-2.
Court Diesner, put the Cougs on the board in the 15th minute and scored again late to ice the game. Anibal Gonzales scored at end the first half.
“I thought we’ve been playing well, and we deserved a victory,” Spanish Springs coach Winston Mora said. “(The wins) haven’t been happening until today.”
Reed’s Roberto Bribiezca scored in the 48th minute, to trim a 2-0 halftime deficit in half but the Raiders couldn’t find the net again.
Reed coach, Joel Martinez, said his team didn’t capitalize on its chances.
“The first goal was a mistake, (which) broke down our momentum. We could’ve done better,” Martinez said. “The playoffs are still a possibility, but our chances are looking slimmer each time we lose. We need goals. We need to work on finishing and maintaining that momentum.”
Spanish Springs host Hug on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
“We are making continuous progression. We need to keep doing what we’re doing—what we did today,” Mora said.
