Volleyball: Cougs cruise in rivalry match

Spanish Springs protected its slim first-place lead in the High Desert League on Tuesday night with a 25-18, 26-24, 25-17 home sweep of Reed.

The Cougs improved to 19-9, 9-3 with the sweep of their cross-town foes, their seventh-straight victory overall. The Raiders moved to 1-15, 1-10.

Sami Szachara led the Purple with 10 kills and three blocks. Emily Moore contributed nine kills, three digs, two blocks and an ace. Mackenzie O’Connell found every category in the stat sheet, finishing with 31 assists, four kills, three aces, one block and one dig.

For the Raiders, Maddie Johnson got up seven digs. Jensen Paris contributed four blocks. And Emily Petrie dished out four aces.

Spanish Springs travels to Hug on Thursday. Reed hosts McQueen. Both matches start at 6 p.m.
