Tribune photo by Caitlin Rierson – Reed boys soccer coach Joel Martinez (in vest) talks to his team during Wednesday’s home game against McQueen. The game was postponed due to lighting failures with the Lancers leading 1-0 in the second half.

McQueen’s Cedric Jones scored the only goal of the match on Wednesday night in the Lancers’ road game at Reed. But McQueen didn’t leave with a win.

In the 59th minute, lights at Reed began to malfunction and delayed the match until further notice.

The continuation of Reed (3-7-2, 2-7-2) and McQueen (2-8-4, 2-6-2) will be determined by the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA).

Jones’ goal came on a penalty kick in the 34th minute.

Jones scored twice in McQueen’s win over Reed last month.

Reed hosts Hug on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Cougars shut out Hawks, 2-0

Spanish Springs defeated Hug 2-0 at home on Wednesday night. The last time the two teams met they tied 1-1, but juniors David Trujillo and Daniel Vasquez both found the net to seal the win.

Both goals were scored in the first half. Vasquez’s was scored in the 10th minute and Trujillo’s in the 36th. After a Hug handball in the box, the Cougars had another chance to score on a penalty kick, but missed.

“I felt like we were the better team to begin with (the first time we played),” Spanish Springs coach Winston Mora said. “This time we were playing at home, we were a little more aggressive and I think we are just getting better all the time.”

The Cougars improved to 4-4-4, 4-4-4 and will host Reno on Saturday at 1 p.m.

“We are looking forward to playing them (Reno) and I think we will do good again,” Mora said.

Spanish Springs and Reno tied 3-3 Sept. 30.
