A Sparks man has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually assaulting a female patient at Saint Mary’s Hospital where he worked, Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks announced.
Bryan Sandiego Samson, 33, who pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault in August, was sentenced last week in Washoe County District Court.
The case against Samson began in 2014 when Reno police detectives responded to a sexual-assault report at the hospital.
Authorities said their investigation determined that a 19-year-old female patient being treated for seizures had been sexually assaulted by an employee of the hospital.
Samson was convicted of sexually assaulting the woman while she was recovering in a hospital bed. Samson was employed as a phlebotomist at the time and had performed a blood draw on the woman, authorities said.
Samson will not be eligible for parole until he has served a minimum of 10 years in prison.
