Dahir announces bid for Sparks City Council

October 16, 2015 By Sparks Tribune 1 Comment

Kristopher Dahir, director of advancement at Excel Christian School and senior pastor for Freedom Fellowship church in Sparks, has announced that he is running for the Ward 5 seat on the Sparks City Council.

Dahir, who is also involved in several community organizations, is seeking to replace Ron Schmidt, who can’t run again because of term limits. Dahir said Schmidt and Councilman Ron Smith have endorsed him.

Dahir said his campaign will focus on five areas: Safety, infrastructure, sustainability, parks and economic development.

“I think a city councilman needs to have the skill set of how to run a business but also the skill set to communicate and gather people for a common goal,” Dahir said. “Those are things II have done in my life continuously.”

The biggest single issue, he said, is how to strategically plan for the city’s projected growth.

“We must really think down the road and think big and be wise about what’s coming.”

I’m not sure if this my issue, pertains to this article but development of the city should render handicap accessibility. In the shopping center on Prater behind McDonald’s, 99 Cent Store shows inaccessibility to persons such as I am today!
Accessibility should be an issue here. The Handicap population is a large population and Sparks as well as non-handicap people may at one point require these services at some point. Economic development pertains to social, and other developmental issues around Sparks and Reno cities to enhance all populations in Nevada.
