Week 8 DI North Power Rankings

October 16, 2015 By Nathan Shoup Leave a Comment

McQueen
Tribune photo by John Byrne – Joey Cox and the Lancers of McQueen return to the power rankings for the first time in a month after last week’s 55-31 home win over Spanish Springs. Cox led a Lancer offense that suddenly looked explosive. Cox completed 18-of-23 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns.

Roses are red. Violets are blue. And Reed, Carson are 1-2.

The Raiders and Senators held serve against bad teams last week but we see shuffling in the rest of the rankings. McQueen makes its way back into the top-five since falling out after the fourth week of the season. Galena moves up to its highest ranking. And Damonte falls completely out of the rankings after being ranked as high as No. 3.

To view how the Power Rankings have adjusted over the course of the season, click here.

1. Reed Raiders (7-0)

The Raiders have played the second-toughest schedule in Northern Nevada (behind Damonte Ranch). On average, they’re outscoring their opponents 50-24 every night. Is that something you’d be interested in?

Next game: Friday at Hug

Last week: 1

2. Carson Senators (6-1)

Nothing really new here. The Senators messed around and put the hurt on Bishop Manogue on Saturday afternoon. The offense continues to be one of the best in the area.

Next game: Friday vs. Galena

Last week: 2

3. Galena Grizzlies (4-2)

Sure, it was against Douglas, but after a 56-17 win over the Tigers, it might be time to start believing in the Grizzlies. We’ll know just how much faith to put in them Friday night. Galena travels to first-place Carson.

Next game: Friday at Carson

Last week: 4

4. Reno Huskies (5-2)

Last week’s showing didn’t wow anyone. Reno scored a touchdown in the final seconds and grinded out a 24-0 win at one-win Hug. Apparently the loss to Reed created a hangover effect. The Huskies are fortunate they drew Hug last week. A second league loss—to Hug—would’ve seriously jeopardized hosting a playoff game.

Next game: Friday vs. Spanish Springs

Last week: 3

5. McQueen Lancers (4-2)

Whoa. Where did that come from? McQueen’s offense had been pedestrian much of the season but broke out the fireworks last week in a big 55-31 home win over Spanish Springs—which entered playing its best ball of the year. The Lancers hit a handful of home runs and erased the Cougars’ offense until a allowing a couple late touchdowns with backups in. Look out for the Lancers.

Next game: Friday at North Valleys

Last week: NR
