More than 8,000 people, including in excess of 3,500 runners, attended the 2015 Run for Education at the Legends at Sparks Marina on Sunday.
The annual fund-raising and fitness event, sponsored by the non-profit Education Alliance of Washoe County, attracted participants from 77 schools and more than 500 volunteers. More than 3,000 of the runners were students.
Officials said the final amount of money raised was still being tabulated, but more than $170,000 had been donated prior to Sunday’s run.
All of the money goes to schools in the county. The Kids in Motion program, which provides fitness equipment to schools, is one of the primary recipients.
The winning schools, recognized for having the most participants, were Van Gorder for elementary school, Dilworth for middle schools and Spanish Springs for high schools.
