Walter Ordonez, Dayton Farrow and Ramon Jacuinde each found the net on Wednesday to spot the Raiders an early 3-0 lead at Spanish Springs.
It went for not. Kind of.
The Cougars roared back with three goals to tie the final match of the regular season, 3-3.
“(It was the) best game of the year,” Reed coach Joel Martinez said. “But they came back to tie.
“We came out and controlled the game and scored three shots from outside the 18’. Unfortunately, I felt like we got too confident and allowed them to get momentum and get back into the game.”
Court Diesner scored two goals in the 26th and 33rd minutes to pull Spanish Springs within one before senior Rudy Hernandez knotted the match.
Reed finished the season 3-10-3, 3-10-3 and in fifth place in the High Desert League—out of the playoffs. Spanish Springs, which entered the day a point ahead of McQueen for third place, finished the regular season 5-6-5, 5-6-5.
The Cougars open the DI North regional tournament on Tuesday either at Carson or Douglas.
