Week 10 DI North Power Rankings

Tribune photo by John Byrne – Reed quickly dislodged any thoughts McQueen had at moving up this week’s rankings with a dominant 63-28 home win over the Lancers last Friday. It was one of numerous blowouts last week, heading into tonight’s final games of the regular season.

What is going on?

Prep football in Northern Nevada has somehow found a way to become lame.

Last week featured another slew of disgustingly one-sided contests. The 34-point differential in Spanish Springs’ 34-0 win over Hug was the closest game of the week. Gross.

Hopefully things get more eventful on Thursday, in rivalry week—the final week of the regular season.

Reed-McQueen and Galena-Damonte Ranch play for the High Desert and Sierra League No. 2 seeds respectively. And it’s of no consequence, but Hug and North Valleys play in the battle of the beatens.

Both are 0-4 in league play, 1-7 overall. Who knows how that one will go?

1. Reed Raiders (9-0)

It wouldn’t have been surprising to see the Raiders need to fight for it last week against McQueen. But nope. Once again, Reed looked completely dominant in a 63-28 rout—and it could have been much worse than that.

Next game: Thursday at Spanish Springs

Last week: 1

2. Carson Senators (7-1)

The Senators took their bye last week. A rested squad doesn’t bode well for Douglas on Thursday night.

Next game: Thursday at Douglas

Last week: 2

3. Reno Huskies (7-2)

As everyone has this season, Reno tore up the North Valleys defense last week. Reno goes to McQueen on Thursday for a huge game in the last week of the regular season. The winner gets the High Desert League No. 2 seed and a home playoff game.

Next game: Thursday at No. 5 McQueen

Last week: 3

4. Galena Grizzlies (5-3)

Nothing too exciting about last week’s 41-0 win over a bad Bishop Manogue squad that was playing purely for pride. The real excitement comes Thursday at home against a Damonte Ranch team that’s hitting its stride. Like the Reno-McQueen game, the winner in this one earns the league’s No. 2 seed and the right to host a quarterfinal playoff game.

Next game: Thursday vs. Damonte Ranch

Last week: 5

5. McQueen Lancers (5-2)

McQueen gave Reed an early test on the road last week before the wheels came completely unglued. Quarterback Joey Cox took a big shot in the loss and may not be able to go Thursday night against Reno. It goes without saying that playing without him would be a big blow.

Next game: Thursday vs. No. 3 Reno

Last week: 4
