Spanish Springs is moving on.
Three different Cougs found the net in Wednesday night’s home DI North quarterfinal against Galena, sending them to the semifinals with a 3-1 win.
“Well, we didn’t pass the ball like we could,” Spanish Springs coach Mike Faker said. “That was not one of our best games, but, they still found a way to win. You know, part of it is it’s just super cold and everybody’s feet is cold, so it’s hard to pass the ball.”
Halley Morgan put the Cougars on the board early with a header in the sixth minute. In the 48th minute, Brionna Wood played add-on.
The 2-0 lead remained into the second half until Galena’s Allison Piccinini scored on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.
Clinging to a 2-1 lead, Makayla Long sealed the postseason goal with a tally in the 75th minute.
Galena, which brought the Sierra League No. 4 seed to the playoffs, finished the season 8-8-3. Spanish Springs, the High Desert League champion, improved to 15-3-2 on the season.
Spanish Springs plays Bishop Manogue on Saturday in a DI North semifinal at North Valleys. First touch is at noon.
