Sparks’ return to the postseason was a brief one.
The Railroaders were bounced 3-0 by Spring Creek in Thursday’s DI-A North regional tournament opener after missing the playoffs a season ago.
The Railroaders were the No. 3 seed in the tourney and finished the season 10-9-2. Spring Creek, the No. 6 seed, advanced to the semifinals.
“I am proud of how the girls played and overall how this season played out,” Sparks second-year coach Art Hurtado said.
Hurtado said his squad had numerous chances to get on the board while Spring Creek had three. The Spartans took advantage of their limited looks while the Railroaders could not.
The Railroaders will lose five seniors to graduation but will return their top five goal scorers next fall.
“(We will) take winter break then get back at it in the spring for volunteer and conditioning and summer ball,” Hurtado said.
