The DI and DI-A North all-league volleyball squads were released last weekend, and unsurprisingly, Spanish Springs had players all over the lists.

All six of the Cougars’ starters were recognized after the junior-laden team went 22-11 and finished second in the High Desert League.

“The fact that we have so many juniors getting recognition is great,” Spanish Springs coach Frank Sandomenico said. “And when you add in the fact we have Halie Smith, Delaney Spinks and Jordyn Boswell into the mix, we will have five of our top six kills leaders returning next season.”

Outside hitter Emily Moore and junior setter Mackenzie O’Connell, both juniors, were first-team selections.

In the 16 league matches, O’Connell set a school record with 479 assists. She also led the team with 50 aces. Moore led the team with 164 kills and served 36 aces, the second-highest total on the team behind O’Connell.

“Emily felt like she was the most dominant player in our league and the player other teams planned around,” Sandomenico said. “I think Mackenzie was the best setter in our league.”

Junior setter Kennedey Stroshine was voted to the second team along with middle blocker Sami Szachara, the team’s lone senior.

Stroshine led the team with 174 digs. Szachara’s 50 blocks were a team high.

Junior outside hitter Ireland Bennett earned honorable mention after putting down 116 kills, trailing only more. Junior Olivia Galletti also earned honorable mention. Her 73 digs were second on the squad.

Reed

The Raiders grinded through a 5-21 season that saw them finish fourth in the HDL but still put three players on all-league teams.

Senior middle blocker Jensen Paris was a first-team selection for the second-straight year.

Fellow senior, Ashley Leighton, was voted to the second team.

Junior Makayla Linebarger received honorable mention.

Sparks

After finishing last in the DI-A North, four Sparks players received postseason accolades.

Middle blocker Vee Tau Faao was named to the second team while Louwayne Trinidad, Marisa Coleman and Michelle Sonos received honorable mention.
