John Byrne/TribuneThe Sparks Hometowne Christmas Parade once again rolled down Victorian Avenue on Saturday afternoon, an annual tradition that brings thousands to the city center for holiday festivities. The parade featured more than 100 entrants, including the “Mayor’s Own Marching Band,” comprised of more than 250 musicians from high schools and middle schools in Sparks. The theme for this year’s parade was “All Aboard the Hometowne Express,” in recognition of Sparks’ train heritage. Francine Burge, who oversees special events for the city of Sparks, estimated the parade attracted about 10,000 spectators. “It was a great day,” she said. “Good weather—a little chilly but you kind of expect that for a Christmas parade.” The parade also served as a donation spot for the city’s Toy Drive, sponsored by the Nugget Casino Resort. See more parade photos on page 16.
