1. Carson Senators
What a season for the Senators. In a region that features great parity at the top, Carson was an anomaly. The Senators went 19-0 against DI North teams and won their first regional title in two decades.
2. Reno Huskies
Like many teams this year, the Huskies nearly got past the Senators in Saturday’s DI North title game, but couldn’t get the big shot to fall late. Still, after a High Desert League title, Reno is going to state.
3. Galena Grizzlies
A sluggish start to league play put the Grizzlies in a tough spot but they were just as good as anyone down the stretch. They were one defensive rebound away from beating Carson in the semifinals.
4. McQueen Lancers
We saw two different McQueen teams this year. The team at the start of the season was ho-hum. The team that showed up at the end of the season was as scary as any.
5. Spanish Springs Cougars
A hyped offseason created lofty expectations for the Cougs, but they never were able to get into a rhythm before technically getting upset at home by Galena in the quarterfinals.
6. Bishop Manogue Miners
The Miners started the season with regional title aspirations but found themselves playing the role of third fiddle in the Sierra League by the season’s end.
7. Douglas Tigers
Douglas was one of the teams that bridged the gap between the top and bottom of the DI North.
8. Reed Raiders
After losing a massive senior class and undergoing a coaching change, a down year for the Raiders was expected. Still, they made the playoffs, an accomplishment that shouldn’t be overlooked.
9. Damonte Ranch Mustangs
The Mustangs could put points up in bunches at times. The defense wasn’t as potent.
10. North Valleys Panthers
The Panthers finished the season tied with the Raiders for the HDL’s final playoff spot but a blowout loss at Reed late in the season cost them a postseason bid.
11. Wooster Colts
The Colts finished the season with one win over a DI North team: Hug.
12. Hug Hawks
Hug also finished the season with one win: an upset victory over Reed as the season came to a close.
