The girls basketball season came to a close last weekend with state championship games on Friday and Saturday at Lawlor Events Center. With a period being put on the season, the all-league squads were released leading into the state tournaments.
In the DI North, Reno, McQueen and Bishop Manogue all led the way with six selections. McQueen’s total includes Aaron Walton, who was named the High Desert League Coach of the Year.
Damonte Ranch had five selections (including Sierra League Coach of the Year Ed Shepard). North Valleys, Reed and Douglas had four selections. Three Carson and Galena players were received all-league honors. A pair of Wooster and Spanish Springs girls were honored. And one Hug player got the nod.
Reed sophomore Taylor Johson was the lone Rail City girl to be voted to a first team.
Fellow sophomore Serene Townsell-Williams and freshman Vanessa Hernandez were second-team selections. Freshman post player Tori Baer received honorable mention.
For Spanish Springs, juniors Kalli Prendergast and Anhelica Shanrock also received honorable mention.

Sparks struggled to a one-win season this winter but sophomore Angie Hurtado was still recognized. Hurtado, who was the DI-A North girls soccer player of the year in the fall, received honorable mention.
Excel Christian blanked
The Warriors also grinded out a one-win season but they were shut out on postseason accolades.
