The Reed boys golf season started with a win in Wednesday’s High Desert League tournament at Somersett. It was the first time Reed has won an HDL tournament in at least six years.
The Raiders carded a team score of 429, three strokes better than runner-up Reno. McQueen (465) finished third on its home course, while Spanish Springs (495) took fourth and North Valleys (561) finished fifth.
Hug did not have enough golfers to post a team score.
Reed senior captain Jayce Robinson shot a 75 to earn medalist honors. He was followed by Brandon Baker (83), Nathan Daylo (84), Brandon Forman (88) and Andrew Emerson (99).
For Spanish Springs, Pat Penrod led the way with a 92. Logan Cox was one under the century mark, followed by Nick Frankoski and Chase Martin (both of whom shot a 101) and Jake Brennan (102).
The HDL tournament circuit will take two weeks off before starting back up April 5 at Washoe Golf Course.
