The RTC will begin work on a project to enhance safety at the intersection of Pyramid Way and McCarran Boulevard. Work is set to begin April 4 and will involve traffic controls.
Members of the public may learn more about the project and planned traffic controls at an open house. The open house will take place at the Wadsworth Masonic Lodge, located at 2425 Pyramid Way in Sparks, and will be Wednesday, March 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. A brief presentation will take place at 5:30 p.m.
Some of the work scheduled to take place within the first 30 days of the project includes:
• Sprout Way will be extended to Mercy Court. Road closures will be established at Mercy Court and Emerson Way. Residential access will be maintained via 4th Street.
• Excavation for utility ditch on Nelson Way. Traffic controls will be in effect in the neighborhood.
• A median island on McCarran Boulevard will be removed. The median island will be removed from Rock Boulevard to East 4th Street.
• A material stockpile will be created on Queen Way. The roadway will be closed east of Pyramid Way.
Throughout construction, access to all businesses and residences in the area will be preserved. Traffic controls will also be adjusted as the project moves forward. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2018.
One new lane in each direction will be added to Pyramid Way. Dedicated turning lanes will also be added to both Pyramid and McCarran. The project will add new sidewalks for pedestrians and a paved multi-use path that will parallel Pyramid on the eastern side. Additionally, trees will be near the path further beautifying the area. Privacy screens with a decorative design, selected by the community, will be constructed. This intersection is a high-crash location and these improvements will enhance safety and mobility for everyone.
Members of the public are encouraged to sign up for email updates about traffic controls at: http://pyramidmccarran.com. A hotline for the project has also been established: (775) 357-9107.
