As part of its Healthy Parks Healthy People: Truckee Meadows initiative, Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, in partnership with Washoe County and KNPB Channel 5, will present its Explore the Outdoors 5K Fun Run and Walk at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. The run kicks-off the Explore the Outdoors 5th Annual Spring Event. A day of family fun at the park brought to you by KNPB Channel 5 and Washoe County.
The 5K (3.1 miles) Fun Run and Walk begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, and starts and ends at the Chinese Pagoda, just west of the May Museum at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Directly following the 5K at 10 a.m. is a free 1K Kids Fun Run at the start/finish line.
Registered runners are highly encouraged to pick up their explorer bags, which include a commemorative t-shirt and other goodies, on Friday, April 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Parks Foundation office at 50 Cowan Drive in Idlewild Park. Runners can also pick up their bag from 8-8:45 a.m. the day of the run at the Chinese Pagoda.
Through April 1, run registration is $25. From April 2 to 16, registration is $30. The Kids 1k Fun Run is free, but parents must pre-register their children at the Parks Foundation website at www.tmparksfoundation.org. Run proceeds help Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation further its mission to raise awareness and appreciation of our local parks and to foster better stewardship of these vital public resources.
Directly following the run, continue your day of exploration at the Explore the Outdoors 5th Annual Spring Event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Families can meet Nature Cat, explore a multitude of free, fun, hands-on activities and games highlighting the best of the outdoors at the Nevada Friends and Families area.
