The Sparks baseball team’s slow start to DI-A North play continued on Saturday.
The Railroaders (3-7, 0-6) dropped both ends of a doubleheader at South Tahoe (3-11, 3-6), which picked up its first win of the season 24 hours prior, against Sparks.
Now losers of six straight, Sparks will attempt to pick up its first DI-A North win of the season on Tuesday at home against Truckee, which is going through its own struggles. The Wolverines are 0-10, 0-6.
South Tahoe 8, Sparks 4
The Railroaders gave up six runs in the bottom of the second, immediately after putting a three spot up in the top of the frame and never regained control in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
Free passes were again an issue for Sparks, which outhit South Tahoe 9-5. The Vikings benefited from six hit by pitches and three walks.
Hunter Nobbs went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in the loss.
South Tahoe 16, Sparks 6
The Vikings had no problem with the Railroaders in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader at the lake.
South Tahoe scored 16 runs on 16 hits—four of which were triples.
