The Sparks softball team scored 11 runs in the first three innings on Friday at Elko and went on to roll, 15-6.
With the victory, the Railroaders moved to 4-8, 4-8 in the DI-A North. The Indians fell to 6-9, 4-7.
Sparks raked out nine hits compared to Elko’s six.
Angie Ruiz went 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs and a run. Riley Nelson went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles, an RBI and a run scored. And Nicole Fiero finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored.
In the circle, Marisa Coleman pitched five innings to pick up the win. She allowed one run (unearned) on three hits while striking out 11 and walking three.
Sparks and Elko wrap up their regular-season series on Saturday with a doubleheader in eastern Nevada.
Sparks baseball routed
The winless Railroaders went to undefeated Elko on Friday. The game followed a predictable script.
Sparks (3-9, 0-8) allowed 21 hits as Elko (10-4-1, 10-0) breezed to an 18-1 win in five innings.
Sparks mustered just two hits in the loss.
The two teams conclude the three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday in Elko.
