Marnell Gaming completed its purchase of the Nugget Casino Resort on Friday, and is planning a $25 million remodel of the property in the near future.

The Nugget has new owners with some big plans.

Marnell Gaming closed on the iconic Sparks resort on Friday, and company officials say it won’t be long before they begin a $25 million remodeling of the property.

“We are ready to quickly invest the capital needed to take the Nugget Casino Resort to the top of its game,” said Anthony Marnell III, Chairman and CEO of Marnell Gaming. “I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the northern Nevada community.”

Along with renovations of the two towers and convention center, Marnell said many of the casino’s 1,000 slot machines will be replaced. The hotel has 1,400 guest rooms, a 75,000-square-foot casino and eight restaurants.

The Nugget Casino Resort joins the Marnell Gaming family’s portfolio, which includes the Colorado Belle and Edgewater casino resorts in Laughlin, Nevada.

“This is a long-term investment opportunity for us,” said Marnell. “The Nugget is an iconic property in a great location and we hope to be here for many years.”

The Ascuaga family sold the 1,382-room hotel-casino in 2013 to a private investment group. Global Gaming & Hospitality has been operating the Nugget.

Marnell said the Nugget will continue to present and promote major special events in the community including Star Spangled Sparks fireworks, Hot August Nights and the Best In The West Nugget Rib Cook-Off.

It will also continue to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to St. Vincent’s Dining Room.

“We intend to continue great events like Star Spangled Sparks, Hot August Nights and the Rib Cook-Off,” said Anthony Marnell III, Chairman and CEO of Marnell Gaming. “We want to keep and hopefully enhance all the events that bring people back each year.”

Two enhancements for Star Spangled Sparks this year will be a laser light show on the north face of the Nugget and a family bike parade during the day.

Marnell emphasized company values as they relate to events.

“We’re a family oriented organization and greatly value community relationships,” said Marnell. “We recognize that Nugget-hosted special events are an important part of how we interact with our neighbors and guests.”

Members of the Nugget’s players club will receive all of the benefits offered in Marnell’s planned corporate-wide players club that will launch in late 2016. Current Nugget Advantage Rewards members will retain their current benefits and status in the interim and continue to earn towards maintaining or building to the next level of player rewards.

Marnell Gaming also promotes and participates in special events at its two properties in Laughlin, Nevada. The Colorado Belle and Edgewater casino resorts take part in community-wide events including the annual Laughlin River Run motorcycle event in April and the River Regatta each August.

The company owns and operates the 10,000 seat Laughlin Events Center which hosts major city sponsored concerts featuring current superstars including Miranda Lambert and Kid Rock and legends Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
