The 17th annual “Star Spangled Sparks” event will be held this Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. in Victorian Square.

The Nugget Casino Resort in Sparks will be hosting its 17th annual “Star Spangled Sparks” Fireworks Show on Sunday July 3. This event is known as the biggest fireworks show in Northern Nevada.

This year with the help of the Regional Transportation Commission, there will be free round-trip rides from Reed High School to the RTC Centennial Plaza in Victorian Square. Rides start at 10 a.m. and continue until midnight.

The festivities begin at 10 a.m. on Victorian Square with something new this year. There will be vendor booths selling patriotic arts and crafts as well as different food vendors to provide refreshments.

Another new addition to the schedule is the Patriotic Bike Ride starting at 11 a.m. in the Nugget Oyster Bar parking lot. Registration for the event will begin at 10. Kids of all ages are encouraged to participate and to break out their best Independence Day costumes and decorations. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes and displays.

Live entertainment will start at 5 p.m. with music performed by The Justin Lee Band.

The Star Spangled Banner will be performed at 9:30 p.m. by Douglas High School student and American Idol season 15 regional finalist Olivia Swearingen. Fireworks are scheduled to begin approximately ten minutes later depending on weather conditions.

Along with the fireworks, there will be a brand new spectacular laser light show that will best be visible from Victorian Square.

Tables in the VIP viewing area are available for $500. They seat ten people and the cost includes unlimited drinks and desserts. To reserve a table, go online at www.nuggetcasinoresort.com.

The Nugget requests that you please leave your dogs, barbecue, and glass containers at home.
