Excel Christian started its season on a positive note Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 48-22 non-league home win over Loyalton (Calif.).
The Warriors (1-0, 0-0) led just 7-6 at the half before exploding in the second half.
Sophomore running back Jeshua Fixel ran for 131 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries and also did damage in the return game. He took his lone kickoff return 60 yards to pay dirt, and also returned a punt 60 yards for a score, giving him five total touchdowns on the afternoon.
Senior quarterback Noah Denson ran for 54 yards and a touchdown on four carries and senior Dylan Buchanan accounted for the final score on the ground.
The local 1A Northern – West squad (which plays eight-man football) will look to win its second straight on Saturday when it hosts Silver Stage at 1 p.m. It will be the second of four-straight Excel Christian home games to start the season.
The Nighthawks have not played a game yet in 2016 after going 0-6 last year.
