Raiders swept by Mustangs
Reed was swept aside in its home opener on Tuesday night by Damonte Ranch, 11-25, 23-25, 18-25.
The Raiders dropped to 2-6, 0-1 in 4A North play.
“The big thought is that we have a long way to go,” said first-year Reed coach Amy Morris.
Reed committed 37 unforced errors in the loss, 29 in the first two sets. The Raiders led the second set 15-5, but seven straight unforced errors helped the Mustangs close within 15-14.
Damonte scored four of the final six points to break a 21-21 tie and go up two sets to none.
“Once they started coming back, we just shut it down,” Morris said. “Again, I think that’s a trained cultural thing … We’re still trying to overcome that thought process.”
Olivia Shepard led the Raiders with eight kills.
Reed goes to Damonte Ranch on Thursday.
