The Washoe Board of County Commissioners is holding a special meeting Thursday at 3:30 p.m. to fill three vacant state legislative seats in Washoe County for Nevada State Senate Districts 13 and 15, as well as Nevada State Assembly District 25.
Washoe County received notice from Governor Brian Sandoval Friday, Sept. 16, to declare the seats vacant, allowing for the County Commission to appoint to the vacant legislative seats.
“There is no indication as to if or when the Governor might call a special legislative session, but we will do our part to fulfill our legal obligation to fill these seats as requested by Governor Sandoval,” Commission Chair Kitty Jung said.
The process for determining nominations to fill the seats will occur at Thursday’s Board of County Commissioners meeting.
