Sparks picked up its second straight shutout win on Friday, 3-0, at Incline.
Genero Vazquez found the net twice as the Railroaders improved to 10-1-1, 4-1-1 in the 3A North. The Highlanders dropped to 7-2-4, 2-1-4 with their first league loss of the season.
“The boys did really well,” first-year Sparks coach Jesus Espana said. “They just bought in to what we were doing. Hopefully we’re going to start perfecting the whole thing.”
Jose Pinto started the scoring in the 17th minute with an assist from Genaro Vazquez. Eight minutes later, Vazquez doubled the distance with an unassisted tally.
In the 50th minute, Pintor fed to Vazquez who scored the final goal of the evening.
The Railroaders play the final game of the first half of the league season on Saturday at home against Lowry (1-8-0, 1-6-0). First touch is at noon.
Girls: Highlanders too much
Sparks went to Incline on Friday and fell 4-1.
The loss leaves the Railroaders at 4-5-3, 2-3-3 in the 3A North.
“(We) missed a lot of shots, dominated the game, just could not finish,” Sparks Coach Art Hurtado said. “We will see how things go tomorrow.”
The Railroaders go to Lowry on Saturday.
