Cougars win seventh straight
It’s been nothing but smooth sailing for Spanish Springs since dropping the first two matches of the year.
The Cougars (7-2-0, 7-2-0) won their seventh straight on Saturday, 3-0, at Hug.
The Hawks fell to 4-5-1, 4-3-1 in the 4A North.
David Trujillo gave the Cougs a 1-0 lead, just eight minutes in. Austin Fullmer stretched the lead to 2-0 just five minutes before the half.
Court Diesner provided the final tally in the 60th.
Spanish Springs will have the opportunity to grow the winning streak to eight on Wednesday night at Reno.
Raiders snap skid
Reed put an end to a four-game losing streak on Saturday with a 3-0 win at McQueen.
Dayton Farrow scored twice for the Raiders (2-6-2, 2-6-1), who came out on top for just the second time this season.
Jose Trujillo scored the lone non-Farrow goal.
Reed will play host to Hug on Wednesday night.
Railroaders cruise
Sparks rolled to its third straight win on Saturday afternoon, besting Lowry 6-0 at home.
Jesus Partida went for a hat trick as the Railroaders improved to 12-1-1, 6-1-1 in the 3A North.
Genaro Vazquez, Jose Pintor and Jose Cerritos also scored in the win.
Sparks starts the back end of the 3A North schedule on Wednesday at home against Truckee (8-2-3, 4-1-3). The Railroaders beat the Wolverines 4-0 a month ago.
Girls
Cougars roll over Hawks
Spanish Springs had no problem on the road Saturday afternoon at Hug.
The Cougars (3-4-2, 3-4-2) breezed to a 5-0 win and have now scored eight unanswered goals going back to the second half of Wednesday’s tie with North Valleys.
Spanish Springs will try to make it two straight wins on Tuesday night at home against Reno.
Railroaders rebound
Sparks bounced back from a 4-1 loss at Incline on Friday with a 4-3 win at Lowry on Saturday afternoon.
Lizeth Garcia found the net twice and assisted another goal as Sparks improved to 5-5-3, 3-3-3.
Angie Hurtado and Mielidy Cano also scored in the Railroaders’ win.
Sparks will start the second half of the 3A North slate on Wednesday afternoon at Truckee. The Railroaders fell to the Wolverines 5-2 at home a month ago.
Raiders squeak out road win
Reed scored two first half goals then hung on after the break for a 2-1 win at McQueen on Saturday afternoon.
The win moved the Raiders to 4-4-1, 4-4-1.
They return home to Tuesday night to play Hug.
